First Couture Cardigan Jacket

My First Couture Cardigan Jacket

The process of creating this jacket took about three months. I worked on the weekends as I was working full-time. The outer fabric was sourced from www.gorgeousfabrics.com. The gold silk twill lining and the gold trim were from Mood Fabrics in Los Angeles. In hindsight, I should have used the selvage edge for the fringe: next time. I did not add a chain at the hem to this jacket as the trim was heavy.

Inspiration

When I decided to make my first Chanel style jacket, I needed to see and feel an actual Chanel jacket. I felt self-conscious walking into the Chanel Boutique at the San Diego Fashion Valley Nordstrom. No other customers were there, so I ended up chatting with the helpful sales associate who even let me take this photo. I loved the style and fabric and decided this piece would be my inspiration. The fringe is created from the selvage edge of the fabric.
